Single storey new home at dusk with skillion roof and timber look garage door, Taylor ACT

A single storey family home in Taylor, one of Canberra's newest suburbs. The brief called for four bedrooms, a separate rumpus and easy single level living, delivered with more architectural interest than the standard project home. The answer is a raked skillion roofline over the entry and living zone, a dark rendered facade broken by timber look cladding, and full height corner glazing that puts the living area on show from the street.

Inside, the home is built around light. Highlight windows run above the living area, the entry turns a glass corner beside a timber front door, and the master suite looks out through a black framed window wall. The open plan kitchen, dining and living space carries timber floors, stone benchtops and matte black tapware, with a walk in pantry behind the kitchen and a freestanding bath and double vanity ensuite in the wet areas.

Building among the first homes on a brand new street brings its own demands: services, access and inspections all happen while the suburb is still taking shape around the site. Alessandro managed the build from slab to styled handover, delivering a finished home, landscaping, driveway and all, while the neighbouring blocks were still bare earth.
